Dr. Mary Burch with the AKC will be joining us from Tallahassee to talk about the American Kennel Club’s Canine Good Citizen program and Therapy Dog titles.  The skills required for Canine Good Citizen form a great foundation for therapy work.

Once you are registered with your dog as a therapy animal team, you are eligible to earn one of the Therapy Dog titles through the AKC.  Your dog does not need to be purebred to be eligible!  Dr. Burch will help us unravel the process and be available to answer any questions.

Dr. Mary Burch has more than 25 years of dog experience and is one of less than 50 Certified Applied Animal Behaviorists in the United States. She is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst, has trained dogs to the advanced levels of obedience and is considered an international expert on the topic of therapy dogs. Dr. Burch is the author of twelve books, more than 200 articles, and has been a lobbyist on legislation pertaining to dangerous dogs and responsible dog ownership. She is frequently interviewed as an expert by newspapers and magazines for articles related to all aspects of animal behavior and responsible dog ownership.
